Steffich Fine Art, Salt Spring Island was established in 1992 by owner Matt Steffich. Since inception, the gallery has become an island institution - hosting shows for nationally noted artists Norval Morrisseau, Jack Shadbolt, Abraham Anghik Ruben and Robert Bateman.
Steffich Fine Art is the sole Canadian representative of kinetic wind sculptor Lyman Whitaker. Whitaker has developed an incredible array of wind driven sculptures that are as captivating as they are dynamic. They look as at home in front of an office building as they do in an intimate garden. For the full line of wind sculptures go to our Wind Sculpture web site.
Gallery owner Matt Steffich, who is also a professional musician, has a huge collection of rock and roll poster from the 1960' San Francisco music scene. Here you will find the work of legendary rock artist Bob Masse, the father of the bold, colorful art nouveau style that is now synonymous with music legends like Jimi Hendrix, The Who and countless others. For more on the Steffich rock art collection head over to our Rock & Roll Site.
Enjoy our site and drop us a line any time. We love art as much as you do.
Every week we highlight a special grouping of art that grabs our attention and hopefully yours! 😊
This year we decided that it was time for another makeover, and the flooring had become the elephant in the room. Employing our, “Go big or go home” philosophy, we decided that the carpet had to go.
If you ask around the gallery who’s idea it was originally to make
the leap to laminate, you will find it a point of prickly contention. Hint: It was Matt, because he’s the boss.
A VERY COOL GALLERY
On May 28, 2018 I came down from Port Hardy and took the ferry over to Salt Spring Island where I was staying for a couple of nights. At around 4:00 pm I tried to grab an early dinner at Auntie Pesto's Cafe, but was told that it would be open for guests at around 4:45 pm. I looked around the plaza a bit and walked into Steffichfineart. What quickly caught my attention was the the rock music content in the gallery. Read more...
So surprised to find an art gallery hidden away in downtown Ganges that has a large selection of west coast artisans & native original art. Many Norval Morrisseau originals on view & a wealth of knowledge to be learned from gallery owner Matt Steffich. A rare treat to find someone who not only knew Norval, but began his collection with a Morriseau painting! So informative & knowledgeable. The gallery is full of unique & rare pieces. Well worth repeat visits!!! Read more...
